3 Spanish Words that have different meanings in Filipino

Philippines
, according to history, was colonized by Spain for 333 years so it's no surprise if we adopted lots of Spanish words. From greetings to utensils, from numbers to colors, even days of the week and months, etc.

I really love Spanish language because aside from it's one of the romantic languages in the world, I just seem to enjoy learning it, second from English.

And while I was studying some of the basic Spanish words, I came across with 3 interesting words that have different meanings in Filipino/ Tagalog ( Philippine Language).

Here are the 3 Spanish words;

1.) "Leche" - means "milk " but in Filipino it has a bad reputation, a bad word. It may be said to the person directly or not (in the air). It sometimes being uttered because the person feels annoyed or mad to the person or to the situation he/ she is currently experiencing.

example:

(Filipino):"Lecheng buhay ito!" - This life sucks or what the f**k my life is!

(Filipino): " Leche ka! - f**k you.

However, sometimes, the word "leche" is not that strong for some people, normally between friends. It can mean a bad word but friends don't take it seriously. They say it jokingly.

2.) "Puerta" - means "door". But, if you were in the Philippines, it means "vagina". Normally this is being uttered by midwives;

"Lalabas na sa puerta niya ang bata, palabas na!" - The baby is coming out from her vagina, it's coming out!

3.) "Cannal" - Channel in English but "Kanal" in Filipino. Kanal is human-made channels for irrigation. Before, I always saw kanal in every house but now, I only see few. It is usually used to make the rain flow out of the house right away like it won't get stuck in the ground.

So, there you have it! 3 Spanish words translated in English and Filipino.
