What is "LOVE"? Does it only refer to romantic love? Of course not. It also applies to family relationship, friends, and of course the love of God - our Father in heaven, Lord Jesus Christ and Holy Spirit.
Every February, some reporters go to popular places like restaurants, parks or malls to ask couples of what is the meaning of the word "love" to them.
Some answer, " ahmm...blind?" then, followed by laugh. While some reply, "romance, two people that become a couple etc."
But if I were to answer, I would answer it with the one written in the Bible, in 1 Corinthians 13 : 4-8, which says, " Love is patient, is kind, it is not jealous, it doesn't boast, not proud, does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it does not keep a record of wrongs, Love does not happy with evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres, Love never fails."
This verse is the complete and real meaning of love. Try to memorize this and put this in your heart. This always come in handy not just because you are waiting for someone to ask you what is love? But, because you need it in your daily relationship with your family and other people.
We sometimes feel bad things towards people may be it our own family or friends. We may feel annoyed, angered, envy. Sometimes, we feel so mad that we wish that person is not around. We want to be alone. That is alright. We, sometimes, really need to have space or to have time to think deeply, to be free and not get suffocated to much with the situation.
How we can apply the real meaning of love in our daily lives? Well, here are some my own interpretation of 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8.
Love is kind - you need to speak with respect. If you are angry to the person you love ( family member, friend or special someone). Tell him/her your side calmly. Don't shout.
Love is patient - time is very important. As what they always say, time heals, so wait for the perfect timing to have a conversation again, if you just had an argument.
- If you are courting someone, be patient to be answered with the sweetest "yes" you will ever hear.
Love doesn't boast, not proud, dishonors others - When you are in a relationship, be humble to one another. Lower your pride. If you need apologize, please do so. This means that you can accept your mistakes and weaknesses. This also means that you are honest and respectful to your partner.
Love is not self-seeking - You are not over -protective. You allow your love ones to enjoy life. You do not own the person/ persons. Let them enjoy what they do ( as long as it's good).
Love is not easily angered - Give your own explanation and allow him/her to explain his/her side. Understand the situation well. Maybe there are other sides that you miss, that's why there is the word "misunderstanding" right? Yes, you will feel mad, or irritable but don't be consumed with anger. Forgive right away, as much as possible.
Love does not keep a record of wrong- Of course, people always commit mistakes, it's natural. But, if you really love the person, Don't blame him/her anymore because it's not worth it. Forgive and forget!
Love does not happy with evil - If you really love the people you say you love like your family or partner, don't do evil things like the the vices of gambling, smoking, or drinking. These are evil things because they are not good for you right? You know the evil things, you are matured enough to know what is right from wrong.
Love rejoices with the truth - Be honest and don't keep secrets.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres, Love never fails - Don't give up. If you love someone you will endure the pain ( but not abusive). Like for couple, the pain, meaning the different kind of problems, like emotional, financial, health problems.
It's like helping and sticking to one another as you go along the way.
I know that as humans, we can't satisfy or do everything that covers the real meaning of love. You will still keep secrets, be irate, you will still have pride, you will still remember the wrong things that your partner did to you, you will still continue doing evil things etc.
That's why the perfect way to explain the real meaning of love is with this bible verse that can be found in John 3:16 which says;

God is the perfect example of "Love". He always loves us. God created the world, the people and He gave Jesus Christ, His son, for whoever believes in Him will have an eternal life.
God, our Father in heaven always forgives. His love never fails. Just do what He wants us to do and we will never lose our track. We must have a reverence to God and follow His commandments. If you really love Him, follow His commandments. And since I already explain the real meaning of love, I hope that you now know it by heart.
Remember the greatest commandment? Matthew 22:36-40 which says;
(37) Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. (38) This is the first and great commandment. (39) And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’(40) On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
